Technical Savvy: Using a Border Tool

We all love nifty gadgets designed to make life easier.  With some, their function is intuitive and others need a bit of explanation.  Using a border tool to create a single border (or a series of borders) along the perimeter of a surface is quick and easy. Hook one end over the edge of your surface.  Select the hole that is the desired distance from the edge and insert a chalk pencil. Slide the tool and pencil, as a unit, around the edge of the surface to establish a border.  No tedious measuring required.

The angled ends are designed to fit a curved surface such as the one shown.  Flip the tool over and used the straight ends for the edge of a straight-sided surface.  Border tools and chalk pencils are available from just click on the links in the text above.
